Celebrex is a prescription arthritis medication used to treat the pain associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine (NSAID) that is used to reduce pain and inflammation (swelling and soreness). It acts as a painkiller for arthritis patients that works by blocking a protein called COX-2 that has been connected with inflammation. After it went on the market in 1999, more than 27 million Americans were prescribed Celebrex.

Celebrex is the most-prescribed drug for treating arthritis. In the nine months ending in September, worldwide sales of Celebrex more than doubled from the same period a year earlier to $2.29 billion, accounting for 6 percent of Pfizer's total sales of $37.59 billion.

However, recently, it has been found to increase the risk of heart attack by a factor of 2.5 compared with older nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Common Celebrex side effects include cold-like symptoms (fever, sore throat, sneezing, cough), skin rash, swelling in the extremities. The drug has also been linked to an increase in the risk of heart attacks, strokes, blood clots, liver damage, kidney failure, high blood pressure, and sudden death.

Drug litigation can be extremely complex. It is best to seek the counsel of a personal injury attorney with experience with Celebrex. John Anderson Law has substantial experience with defective product litigation, including pharmaceutical and medical product cases. Your rights and obligations will vary depending on many different factors. You should act promptly in getting advice from a lawyer so you will fully understand your rights and be in a better position to protect them.
