Each year, there is approximately sixty-thousand pedestrian fatalities in the United States alone. Most of the fatalities are caused by the inattentiveness and carelessness of drivers.   • On average, a pedestrian is injured in a traffic accident every 8 minutes.
  • On average, a pedestrian is killed in a traffic accident every 111 minutes.
  • In 2005 a total of 4,881 pedestrian were killed in motor vehicle accidents.
  • In 2005, the per capita pedestrian death rate was 1.6 per 100,000 people.
